History
The yellow pear tomato dates back to 18th century and is a heirloom tomato variety. In olden days it was eaten afresh as also used for making fresh tomato preserves. Biologist and Taxonomist Christiaan Hendrik Persoon was the first person to record the yellow pear tomato in his Synopsis plantarum.

On maturity the plant gives cherry tomatoes that are best known for its sweet taste. This has made it the first preference of gardeners who seem to grow it, all across the globe. It is increasingly being used in salads and pastas.
